Drivers side seat has ripped! Should I replace the seat, or just buy some seat covers? They are vinyl seats. There are some other cosmetic repairs that need to be done, (New soft top, dent above windshield, re-paint fenders, tire cover, etc.) It is a 2000, less then 99,000 miles (mostly highway miles), I am the only owner, and never have had any problems with it. It’s yellow, black top, half doors, air, CD player, sound bar, 4cyl, tires are pretty new. I hardly ever drive it, I work with my husband so we always drive his car. How would this effect the trade-in value? (I would say it is in "Fair" condition at worst.) Or would I be putting more money into it than I should? Would I be losing money?
if you don’t intend to do any of the other repairs…replacing the seat wouldn’t make any difference…you could probably contact an upholstery shop and they could repair the rip and not have to replace the seat….if your gonna do all the other repairs it would make sense to repair this too as to get the best dollar for it…..I’d bet you could list it on craigs list or ebay and get a pretty good $$ for it….

If you want to get the real value of your vehicle take it as is to several dealer and offer it for sale to them. Don’t say you are going to trade it just ask for the used car manager and find out what he will give you. I’m sorry to say that the book out sources on the internet are an opinion on value. I’ve yet to see anyone accually sell thier vehicle to KBB or Nada. This way you will at least see which dealer is giving you the most for the vehicle in real $ and know were you can get the best deal.

just take it into a good detail shop and have it cleaned up and waxed.
a clean car will sll better than a dirty one and you will get the value back.
also run a carfax to show prospective buyers.
