It is not recommended that you add anything to your carseat that didn't originally come with it, since it wasn't crash tested with the product. Adding padding may increase your child's risk of getting hurt in an accident. A large majority of parents do not use car seats properly. (I think it may be around 90%!!!) You may want to go to carseat.org for more information or speak to your pediatrcian. After 4 years, it is possible that your car seat no longer meets current safety standards. The plastics also break down over time...most seats have an "expiration date" on them. Take the seat to the fire department and have it inspected. Also check the manual for other information.
